Trust and the Shape of a Decision

Of course they are gone then, after. Once we have made them they often disappear in the very same moment, but the consequences through our decisions (them) mostly remain for quite a long time.

Like so much in the world around us there is a future that comes from them, with decisions often far into the future. We often evaluate our decisions from the perspective of whether they worked or not. That's quite often it. What we much rarely explore is of what they have done with us or made out of us.

The decisions we make always have at least two effects. One that has an effect in the world out there, visible to us or even to everyone, and then there is this consequence that exists only within ourselves, hidden from the outside world, our own, perceptible through our feelings. In both we practice a capability that can also change and move in different directions. It may be that with the choice we have made, we take on a responsibility, or that we hand it over to someone else to take it on.

Artificial intelligence promises us better decisions. Faster decisions. Decisions based on more information, more patterns, more data. And in many situations, it will undoubtedly be able to deliver exactly that.

But there is a (huge, or name it the most important) difference between being supported in making a decision and giving away the act of deciding itself.

Responsibility is not only a burden that we carry. It is forming us and the world around us.
